About Barbara Hemphill
Barbara Hemphill, CPO® has been referred to by the media as “America’s Favorite Organizer.” She is the author of several books, including Kiplinger’s bestselling “Taming the Paper Tiger” book series, including Taming the Paper Tiger at Home, Taming the Paper Tiger at Work, and the soon-to-be-released new book entitled The Paper Tiger Tamed: The Freedom of a Truly Organized Life. The software series she helped launch, Taming the Paper Tiger, is one of the world’s leading organizational software titles – guaranteed to find anything in your office in five seconds. It’s no wonder she is often called “The Paper Tiger Lady.”
Barbara’s business grew out of the lessons she learned growing up on a farm in Nebraska. Her formal training was in music and education. A pioneer in the field of professional organizing, Barbara started her business in 1978 with a $7 ad in a New York City newspaper. Today she has an international team of 135 Paper Tiger Authorized Consultants™. These consultants are part of Paper Tiger Productivity Institute™, whose mission is to help individuals and organizations create and sustain a productive environment so everyone can accomplish their work and enjoy their lives. Barbara’s proprietary processes include The 8-Hour Miracle™ and The Paper Tiger Productivity Solution™ which guarantee a ten percent increase in productivity by any measure the client chooses.
Barbara has appeared on several television shows, including the Today Show, Good Morning America, CNN Nightly News, CNBC, and CNN-FN. Barbara has lived in the West Indies, India, New York City, and Washington, DC. While living in India, she adopted three children. In addition, she has two stepchildren and two grandchildren. She now lives in Raleigh, North Carolina with her husband Alfred Taylor. Their home sits on 70 acres of woods overlooking a 30-acre lake, where people love to come to see whether Barbara practices what she preaches!
